I used to write 2,000 words a day on my phone.

I was fresh out of a job and had no clue about what I wanted to do. The only thing I had done for the last three years was plan weddings. I wanted to take things slow and not rush into another job that would kill me in 6 months. As the previous company I worked with had hired me to write, I decided to start freelance writing for a bit.

My first plan was to get an internship and learn the ropes of the craft. Luckily, I got one. I had to write 2,000 words every day. In the morning, they would send me the topic and the keywords. I had to research, write & edit the entire 2,000 words within 24 hrs. The funny part is, I had no laptop or desktop.

So, I would research on my phone. I wrote articles on a word document, added pictures, and edited the entire blog all on my phone. It was tedious, irritating and I would sit hunched in one corner of my room, typing furiously. The internship lasted for ten days as I was frustrated by bending over my phone and staring at it for almost the entire day. And at times, late in the night.

They didn’t pay me for the ten days. But, they did tell me how much they loved my work. During this time, I got paid a substantial amount to write 70 words for a friend’s article, and I knew my next call of action.

I started looking for freelance opportunities on the web. I used to scour Facebook groups day in and day out. Until, one day in December 2019, I got my first client in a Facebook group! She was based in Dubai and wanted someone to write copy for her website.

When I took up this work, I knew I needed to work out the no laptop & desktop issues. I would sit in the cyber cafe near my house or use a cousin’s desktop during the afternoons. My hard work and persistence paid off. Today, clients reach out to me, and luckily, I have a laptop. But even now, my phone is my favorite companion.
